Illovo Sugar Malawi has donated medical equipment worth over K9 million to Kameza Quarantine and Isolation Centre in Blantyre, in a bid to boost the facility’s capacity in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.

I l lovo Sugar Malawi Managing Director, Lekani Katandula, said the need for the government and private sector to join hands in the fight against the pandemic cannot be overemphasised.

“This is not something that government can deal with on its own but in collaboration with the private sector and even the community, if we can all cooperate we can avoid the pandemic and get it under control as quickly as possible,” Katandula said.

Blantyre Health Office’s Director of Health and Social Services, Dr Gift Kawalazira, thanked the company for the initiative.

He indicated that they are currently working on expanding the facility which will require more medical resources.

“This donation means that we now have capacity to treat critically ill Covid-19 patients at this facility however we still need more to expand the Centre,” Kawalazira said.

As of Wednesday Kameza Quarantine and Isolation Centre had one Covid-19 confirmed case and two suspected cases.
