Flights in Malawi were put on hold from the May 1 in a bid to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking in an interview, Minister of Transport, Ralph Jooma, confirmed that his ministry has made the recommendation to the Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19.
“Those measures which were initiated by the Ministry of Transport were gazette by the Ministry of Health so it is that ministry that can authorize the opening of flights but we have recommended that if all countries are opening up, we should also open,” Jooma said.
Speaking in a separate interview, the Co-Chairperson of the Taskforce, Dr John Phuka, said they are still looking at different proposals and they will provide their take in due course.
“We are scrutinising different documents and we will consider and provide guidance after our meeting next week,” Phuka said.
