Women Rising: Resilience and Leadership in Displacement
UN Women, in collaboration with local partners and other UN agencies, is actively engaged in enhancing the well-being of displaced women worldwide. At the recent Global Refugee Forum in Geneva, UN Women committed to implementing pledges for women’s protection, leadership, and socio-economic inclusion. This commitment is exemplified through impactful stories from displaced women, showcasing their resilience and determination.

Taghreed, a Syrian refugee in Jordan, found support at UN Women’s Oasis Centre, participating in a cash-for-work program. After completing the courses, she established her tailoring business, enabling her to fund her daughter’s university education.
In Bangladesh, Pori, a Rohingya refugee, benefited from the Multi-Purpose Women’s Centre, addressing trauma, gaining literacy skills, and becoming an advocate against gender-based violence. Pori’s journey highlights the transformative power of education and empowerment.

Margaret, a South Sudanese widow in Uganda, overcame trauma through a mental health program by UN Women. Subsequently, leadership skills training empowered her to mobilize women in her community, leading to her election as the head of the refugee settlement.
