Benin is set to host the 11th AfriLabs Annual Gathering from November 18 to 20, 2026, bringing one of Africa’s leading innovation and technology events to a Francophone country for the first time.
The gathering will take place in Cotonou under the theme “Africa’s Innovation Era: Building Sustainable Institutions for Global Influence and Continental Impact.” The event is being hosted by Benin’s Ministry of Digital Transformation and Innovation and has received the backing of the country’s presidency.

The selection of Cotonou represents a significant step in AfriLabs’ efforts to strengthen connections between innovation ecosystems across Africa. The organization said the decision reflects its commitment to overcoming linguistic and geographic barriers and creating stronger opportunities for collaboration between English-, French- and Portuguese-speaking markets.
AfriLabs Board Chair René Parker said bringing the gathering to Cotonou is intended to deepen engagement with Francophone West Africa, where technology hubs, entrepreneurs and startups are increasingly contributing to the continent’s innovation landscape.
Benin’s Minister of Digital Transformation and Innovation, Mahuna AKPLOGAN, said the country views digital transformation as a long-term process requiring investment in institutions, talent and entrepreneurship.
The 2026 gathering will focus on the role of resilient institutions in supporting entrepreneurs, attracting investment, strengthening innovation policies and helping African businesses compete globally.Participants will have access to ministerial discussions, policy forums, startup showcases, investment sessions, exhibitions, keynote presentations, thematic discussions and networking opportunities.
The event will also highlight Benin’s growing digital economy and entrepreneurial ecosystem, positioning Cotonou as an increasingly important gateway for technology and innovation across West Africa.
With more than 500 innovation and technology hubs across more than 50 African countries, AfriLabs has developed one of the continent’s largest networks supporting entrepreneurs, innovators and ecosystem builders.
AAG 2026 is expected to bring together policymakers, investors, entrepreneurs, technology leaders, researchers and representatives of innovation hubs from across Africa and beyond.
