Equatorial Guinea: 10 new cases of Covid-19 are confirmed in Malabo

The total number of cases amounts to 51, 9 in the mainland region and 42 in Bioko Island.

Today, Wednesday, April 15, 2020, the Baney laboratory has confirmed ten 10 new positive cases in the SERPENTINA offshore rig of the Exxon Mobil company. That makes a total of 30 people in the last 24 hours, after the multinational’s platform with 100 people on board was declared in quarantine, by the Ministry of Health.

According to the report presented by the Minister of State for Health, a total of 100 samples were taken on the platform, 30 on the first day and 70 on the second day, guaranteeing the taking of samples to all its personnel. Out of the 70 cases analyzed on the second day, 10 cases tested positive.

Among these 10 new confirmed cases there are six (6) Equatorial Guineans and four (4) Filipinos.

The 30 new confirmed cases are asymptomatic, remain isolated on the rig and will soon be transferred to the Malabo Cases Management and Monitoring Unit.

The Minister of Health, Salomon Nguema Owono used the occasion to thank all those who directly or indirectly support the activities of the Technical Committee in this dedicated work that they are carrying out in these difficult times.

Remember that to date of the 51 confirmed cases of of the COVID-19 pandemic in Equatorial Guinea, 4 have recovered satisfactorily.
