Equatorial guinea news: (Covid 19) Health alerts about an increase in coronavirus infections in the country, due to social indiscipline in compliance with the measures

The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, headed by the Vice Minister, Mitoha Ondo’o Ayekaba, assisted by the WHO technical coordinator, Alain Poy, today presented the epidemiological reports of Covid-19 in the country.

As at November 29, 2020, Equatorial Guinea has registered 5,156 cases with an accumulated positivity rate of 7.6 and at rate of  2.1 in the last 7 days, 5,009 recovered, the number of deaths remains at 85.  .

Three months ago, it was reported that the curve was flat, to this day, Vice Minister Mitoha ondo’o Ayekaba has stated that the data shows another reality.

Mitoha insistes that we are at a time where we must join forces and wills to face the coronavirus pandemic together. “Today we are talking about an increase in coronavirus cases in the country, and that is due to social indiscipline, lack of compliance with established regulations. Control mechanisms do not work by themselves, the will of men and women  of our country is decisive ”, said Mitoha.

The Technical Committee asserts that the upward trend of the Covid-19 curve in our country is due to the misuse of prevention measures and outbreaks in all countries. Due to this possible regrowth, the committee launches tomorrow, December 2, 2020, a national awareness and remobilization campaign to respect the measures during the Christmas and New Year holidays, in order to remind the population to put on the mask properly, wash hands or disinfect properly and respect social distancing.

Although local contagion cases continue to be recorded (80% asymptomatic), the committee has said that there is a considerable load of imported cases, since people who enter with PCR negative at 10 days already develop and become positive.

The vice minister has insisted that health workers cannot face the pandemic alone, it is necessary that each one fulfill their responsibility in that task, if the people do not join in, it will be very difficult to contain the virus in the country. Many of those who from the red zone risk their lives in the line of duty, others contribute as volunteers for the protection of the people, but even so, indiscipline and the lack of perception of risk and excess confidence has led us to this increase in cases in recent days.

“The disease cannot be stopped in two weeks if everyone makes the determination to stay home for two weeks, but there is a large sector of our society that does not do so, they become risk factors, now we are entering the holidays, that is a great weakness factor for us ”. He said.
