Malabo — Equatorial Guinea has officially appointed a new Prime Minister after more than two weeks of political deliberation. Just a few hours ago, a presidential decree was issued naming Manuel Nsue Osa, the long-serving Director General of the National Bank of Equatorial Guinea, as the country’s new Prime Minister.
Manuel Nsue Osa succeeds Manuela Roka Botey, whose government resigned in July 2024. Roka Botey made history in 2023 as the first woman to hold the office of Prime Minister in Equatorial Guinea, a milestone in the only Spanish-speaking nation in Africa.
Nsue Osa’s appointment follows a period of speculation and anticipation, as the nation awaited the announcement of the new Head of Administrative Coordination to guide the administration through its current challenges. With a distinguished career in finance, leading the National Bank for many years, Nsue Osa is expected to bring a wealth of experience to his new role, focusing on economic stability and governance.

In addition to the appointment of Nsue Osa, two more decrees were sanctioned, appointing Gaudencio Mohaba Mesú and Alfonso Nsue Mokuy as the new Deputy Prime Ministers. Mohaba Mesú, who previously served as the President of the Congress of Deputies, will take on the role of First Deputy Prime Minister, responsible for the Ministry of Trade, Business Promotion, and Industry. Meanwhile, Alfonso Nsue Mokuy will continue in his role as Second Deputy Prime Minister, overseeing Human Rights.
Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue extended his congratulations to the newly appointed officials via his Twitter account. He expressed cautious optimism about the presidential decree that formalized Nsue Osa’s new role and the appointments of the two new Deputy Prime Ministers. The Vice President emphasized his confidence that their leadership and professionalism will strengthen the country’s objectives of achieving a more prosperous future through transparency, integrity, dedication, and patriotism.
The transition from Manuela to Manuel, along with the new appointments, marks a significant moment in the country’s political history.
