CAMEROON: FORMER ARSENAL AND BARCELONA STAR JOINS DJIBOUTI CLUB

Midfielder Alex Song has reportedly move to Djibouti Premier League side AS Arta/ Solar7

Former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Alex Song has reportedly completed a surprise move to Djibouti Premier League side AS Arta/ Solar7.

According to reports, the former Cameroon international has signed a one-year contract with the Arta based club with an option for a further year.

Song had been without a club since leaving FC Sion in March. The Swiss Super League side terminated the 33-year-old’s contract shortly after the Covid-19 pandemic halted football across the world.

The Douala-born midfielder came through the ranks at SC Bastia and secured a move to English Premier League giants Arsenal in 2005.

During his time in North London, Song established himself as one of the best midfielders in England’s top-flight. After 10 goals in 205 appearances, he left the Gunners in favour of a move to Spanish giants Barcelona in 2012.

Song struggled for game time in Catalunya and returned to the Premier League with West Ham United before moving onto Russia where he played for Rubin Kazan.
