He currently serves as Press Supervisor for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games and Asian Para Games, working with GL events Japan K.K. to oversee media operations across the AIA and CGC venues. His responsibilities include supporting international press coverage of judo, basketball, wheelchair basketball and race walking competitions.
His appointment adds significant international broadcasting and editorial experience to ACG’s strategic leadership network. Monteiro spent nearly 25 years at Euronews, where he held several senior positions, including journalist, producer, news editor, Head of the Portuguese Service and Deputy Editor-in-Chief. Throughout his career, he contributed to the development and delivery of multilingual news and sports coverage for audiences across Europe and international markets.
A native Portuguese speaker fluent in English, French and Spanish, Monteiro offers a valuable combination of editorial leadership, international sports production experience and cross-cultural media expertise. His professional background is expected to support ACG’s efforts to integrate international broadcasting, media distribution and global audience engagement into the development of African sports and entertainment infrastructure.
According to Nicolas Pompigne-Mognard, Founder and Executive Chairman of ACG, Monteiro’s experience will strengthen the organisation’s ability to position African sports and entertainment projects within international media markets.
His appointment reflects the growing importance of broadcasting and international visibility in building commercially sustainable sports ecosystems, particularly as African countries seek to attract investment, develop infrastructure and expand their presence in the global sports economy.
ACG’s broader strategy focuses on originating and structuring integrated sports and entertainment districts that move beyond conventional stadium and single-venue development. These mixed-use ecosystems are designed to combine sporting facilities, entertainment infrastructure, commercial activities and other revenue-generating opportunities.
The organisation works to bring together governments, public-private partnership authorities, development finance institutions, private investors, infrastructure developers, sports federations, event promoters, media organisations and local communities to transform project concepts into financially viable developments.
Africa’s sports economy is projected to reach $20 billion by 2035, highlighting the significant commercial opportunities associated with the continent’s expanding sports and entertainment industries. However, unlocking this potential will require more integrated infrastructure, stronger investment partnerships and sustainable business models.
By bringing experienced international professionals such as Monteiro into its Advisory Board, ACG aims to strengthen the expertise required to connect African sports development with global broadcasting, investment and entertainment markets.
The appointment also underscores a broader opportunity for Africa: transforming its growing sporting talent, audiences and events into internationally competitive commercial ecosystems capable of generating employment, attracting investment and creating lasting economic value.
