Cassava Technologies Expands Access to Anthropic’s Claude AI Across Africa Through Amazon Bedrock

The agreement introduces another route for African businesses, governments, universities and entrepreneurs to access advanced AI models through a technology partner with infrastructure and digital services across the continent.

Cassava Technologies has become an authorised reseller of Anthropic’s Claude artificial intelligence models through Amazon Bedrock, creating an additional channel for organisations across Africa to access advanced AI capabilities and integrate them into their operations.

The agreement brings together Anthropic’s AI technology, Amazon Bedrock’s cloud-based model access and Cassava’s digital infrastructure and services. It is intended to help African organisations adopt AI tools for business applications, innovation and digital transformation as demand for advanced computing and automation grows.

Claude is a family of large language models developed by Anthropic, offering capabilities that include advanced reasoning, image analysis, code generation and multilingual processing. Through Amazon Bedrock, organisations can integrate these models into their own applications and services without having to build their own foundational AI models.

Cassava’s authorised reseller status provides customers across the continent with another route to access these capabilities through a partner focused on African markets. The arrangement could support organisations seeking to incorporate AI into customer services, software development, research, business processes and other operational activities.

Hardy Pemhiwa, President and Group CEO of Cassava Technologies, said the agreement responds to the need for accessible AI technology supported by the infrastructure and services required for responsible adoption.

The company aims to make advanced AI available to businesses, governments, researchers, entrepreneurs and universities across emerging markets, enabling them to participate more fully in the digital economy.

Beyond AI model access, Cassava operates a digital ecosystem spanning connectivity, cloud services, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence solutions. Its data centre footprint across Africa forms part of its broader investment in the infrastructure required to support the continent’s expanding digital economy.

Access to advanced AI models could create opportunities for African enterprises to improve productivity, develop new digital products and services, and expand their capacity to compete in technology-driven markets. Universities and researchers may also find applications in data analysis, software development and research workflows, while entrepreneurs could use these tools to support innovation and business development.

However, the practical benefits will depend on factors including pricing, connectivity, local technical support, data protection requirements and organisations’ ability to integrate AI into their existing systems. Ensuring responsible deployment and developing the skills needed to use these technologies effectively will also be important to wider adoption.

The agreement reflects the growing role of partnerships between AI developers, cloud platforms and regional technology providers in extending access to advanced digital tools. For Africa, the availability of additional access channels may help organisations explore AI applications while relying on established technology infrastructure and service providers.

As adoption expands, the challenge will be to translate access to advanced models into practical outcomes for African businesses, public institutions, researchers and communities, while ensuring that the benefits of digital transformation reach a broader range of users across the continent.
