In a significant diplomatic move, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi engaged in discussions with Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, on January 25, 2024, in Beijing. The talks covered a broad spectrum of bilateral and multilateral issues, emphasizing the strategic common ground between the two nations and the shared vision for a China-Kenya community with a future in harmony.
Minister Wang Yi highlighted the enduring friendship and mutual support between China and Kenya, spanning six decades since the establishment of diplomatic ties. The leadership of President Xi Jinping and President William Samoei Ruto has provided essential guidance for the development of strong bilateral relations. Both sides have witnessed fruitful cooperation, with projects like the Mombasa-Nairobi railway under the Belt and Road initiative significantly contributing to Kenya’s economic progress. Minister Wang Yi expressed China’s appreciation for Kenya’s adherence to the one-China principle and non-interference in internal affairs, reinforcing a basic norm governing international relations.
