China to Start Reconstruction Work in Flood-Hit Libya

Its been reported that the United Nations migration agency revealed at least 30,000 people in eastern Libya were displaced

The authorities in eastern Libya announced that an international conference to aid reconstruction efforts would be held in Derna on October 10, 2023 to restore damage sustained during devastating floods that left thousands dead.

However, taking part in that conference could be a diplomatic issue for many countries, as the eastern authorities are not recognised by the UN. According to Ali Sidi, the infrastructure minister in Mohamad Hamad’s government based in eastern Libya, China will inaugurate the reconstruction work.

The number of deaths in Derna range from 18,000 to 20,000 after the catastrophic event, according to the city’s mayor. Deutsche Welle reported that the UN migration agency said at least 30,000 people in eastern Libya were displaced.
