The Independent Power Producers (IPP) Office has been announced as the headline sponsor of the 2025 Youth Energy Summit (YES!), reinforcing its commitment to community development and the integration of Africa’s youth at the heart of the continent’s energy future. The event, scheduled for June 18–20 in Cape Town, will bring together over 3,000 graduates, young professionals, and entrepreneurs to tackle the most pressing energy challenges of the 21st century.

With more than 50% of Africa’s population still lacking access to electricity and the continent holding vast untapped renewable energy potential, Africa stands at a historic crossroads—turning the energy gap into an opportunity to create up to 100 million green jobs by 2050. The summit aims to be the world’s largest youth-focused forum in the energy sector, with a mission to close the skills gap and ensure youth voices are represented at the highest levels of energy decision-making.

The opening ceremony on June 18 will feature prominent leaders including Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina, African Development Bank presidential candidate Amadou Hott, and African Union Commissioner for Energy and Infrastructure H.E. Lerato D. Mataboge. They will join the IPP Office to kick off what promises to be a landmark moment in Africa’s energy transition.

“Renewable energy is the way forward, not just for South Africa, but for the entire planet,” said Dzunani Makgopa, CFO of the IPP Office. “YES! is a strategic platform to connect young people with real opportunities in the energy sector. We want to see them lead and innovate now.” Simon Gosling, Managing Director of EnergyNet, added, “IPP’s investment in YES! reflects its deep commitment to community engagement and job creation in the energy industry.”

YES! also partners with top academic institutions such as the University of Cape Town, Kenyatta University, and Harambee, expanding its regional reach and impact.

With a bold goal to build a network of 100 million young African energy leaders by 2035, YES! 2025 will not only celebrate youth talent—it will empower it to drive a more sustainable and inclusive energy future for the entire continent.
