Equatorial Guinea: Viceminister of New Technologies meets ecosystem builders ahead AfriLabs Annual Gathering

This visit was intended, among other things, to request the support of the Government to host this meeting in Equatorial Guinea in the future. This year's sessions will be held on 11, 12 and 13 October

On Monday afternoon, 4th of September yesterday,  the Deputy Minister of Transport, Posts and New Technologies, Cándido Muatetema Baita, representing the Minister, received in audience the representatives of the incubator and technology centre for entrepreneurship, research and innovation, Dreams Hub, and the Locos Por Cultura (LPC) collective, respectively.

The member of government, assisted by a technical team led by the director general of Telecommunications and New Technologies, applauded the support initiatives that both organisations are carrying out in the ecosystem with young entrepreneurs.

Oscar Nchaso, founder and executive director of Dreams Hub, spoke on behalf of the innovative ecosystem, in particular, requesting the support of the government executive to host the same event that brings together once a year the entire African technology, entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem, in a different country every year; as well as the support to have the participation of Equatorial Guinea, this year in Kigali, Rwanda, represented by the three innovation centres, members of AfriLabs in Equatorial Guinea: Dreams Hub, LPC and the IDENTIC technology foundation. An opportunity to highlight at their stand and during a panel with experts, the potential and beauty of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea with the power of synergies created by technology.

AfriLabs is the network organisation of technology and innovation centres, with more than 450 Hubs (innovation centres) in 52 countries on the continent. This year’s AfriLabs annual meeting, to be held in Kigali, Rwanda, from 11-13 October 2023, has as its theme: “Accelerating Africa’s Digital Economy; with the power of our Community”.

Muatetema Baita assured that “being able to host events of this magnitude is indeed an initiative aligned with the will of the Government, both to accompany the actions of the digital agenda from the ministry, as well as a firm commitment to promote tourism in our unique and beautiful country”. At the same time, he urged the representatives of Dreams Hub and LPC, who attended the meeting, to outline the request so that it knows its course in order to see specifically the necessary resources before firmly acquiring the commitment.
