The Vice President, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, took to Twitter to share the news which he termed "historic and memorable."

Equatorial Guinea: Death Penalty Finally Abolished

The death penalty has now been abolished in Equatorial Guinea following an announcement on Monday after President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo signed it into law.

The Vice President, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, took to Twitter to share the news which he termed “historic and memorable.”

The last official execution in the small country was carried out in 2014, according to Amnesty International.

Equatorial Guinea follows the Central African Republic in May 2022, Chad in 2020 and Sierra Leone last year in recent years’ ban on capital punishment on the African continent.
