The highly anticipated international boxing mega-event scheduled to take place in Equatorial Guinea has been canceled due to an arm fracture suffered by Souleymane Sissoko, one of the event’s top stars. The announcement was made by the boxer himself during a press conference held at a hotel in Malabo, where he personally explained the reasons behind the temporary decision.

“During training, I fractured my arm, and that is the main reason why we cannot carry out the event,” Sissoko explained to the media. During the press conference, he revealed that he will undergo an X-ray in three weeks, after which the required recovery time will be determined, potentially ranging from two to twelve weeks.

Despite the setback, Sissoko reaffirmed his commitment to the development of boxing in Equatorial Guinea. During his visit, he planned to collaborate with the National Boxing Federation on various social activities and brought equipment intended to support the sport in the country. “I brought a lot of gear and plan to collaborate with the Boxing Federation of Equatorial Guinea,” he emphasized.

The boxer also took the opportunity to highlight his long-standing relationship with local boxing, underscoring years of cooperation with the sport in the country. “This is not my first time in Equatorial Guinea; I have been working with the National Boxing Federation and other local boxers for a long time,” he added, expressing optimism about the future of the sport in the region.

Although the event’s cancellation represents a setback for both fans and the promotion of boxing in Equatorial Guinea, organizers and international partners remain confident that the event can be rescheduled. Meanwhile, the vision of positioning the country as a key hub for boxing development in Africa remains a priority.
