Some 600 tests conducted and no new Covid-19 cases reported in last 48 hours

In the last 48 hours, no new cases of Covid-19 have been registered in Mauritius from the 600 tests conducted.

A total of 301 tests were carried out today and the number of Covid-19 cases remains at 324 of which 261 are active cases. Moreover, 51 patients have recovered and 270 persons are under quarantine in centres across the country.

The latest update was provided, this evening, by the spokesperson of the National Communication Committee on Covid-19, Dr Zouberr Joomaye, through videoconference, from his residence.

Dr Joomaye stated that the confinement imposed on the population is bearing its fruits. While the curve may be flattening, he urged Mauritians to remain vigilant and keep up social distancing measures. He recalled that while testing has increased, it is still limited and reassured the population that Government, through the Ministry of Health and Wellness, will rapidly expand testing for the Covid-19 to cater for people showing Covid-19 symptoms, persons in contact with Covid-19 patients and frontliners.

We must not become complacent, he said and called upon each and every one to abide by the confinement and curfew instructions. Dr Joomaye reiterated the precautions that people who are older or with underlying medical conditions should take as they risk the severest consequences.
