The draw for the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 has shaped an exciting Group E, bringing together Algeria, Equatorial Guinea, Sudan, and Burkina Faso. Among the most anticipated matches in the group is the clash between the Nzalang Nacional and the Desert Foxes, a rivalry sparked by Equatorial Guinea’s historic victory in AFCON Cameroon 2023.

In that edition, Equatorial Guinea stunned the continent with a 1-0 win over Algeria, thanks to a goal by Esteban Obiang, a result that contributed to the early elimination of the then-defending champions. This triumph marked a turning point for Equatorial Guinean football, solidifying its position as a team capable of competing against traditional powerhouses. For Algeria, on the other hand, the defeat was an unexpected blow they are still eager to avenge.

AFCON 2025: Equatorial Guinea just needs a “breath”

In this new edition, Group E presents significant challenges for both teams. Sudan, with its physical and disciplined style of play, aims to be the group’s surprise package, while Burkina Faso, led by players like Bertrand Traoré, poses a constant threat with its speed and offensive creativity. Both Equatorial Guinea and Algeria will need to bring their best game to progress in a group that promises to be fiercely competitive until the very end.

The participation of Emilio Nsue, captain and key figure for Equatorial Guinea, remains a mystery. Although he has not confirmed his presence for Morocco 2025, the team relies on its young core, strengthened by players who have proven their ability to perform on big stages. Algeria, meanwhile, arrives determined to reclaim its prestige, led by Riyad Mahrez and a balanced squad that combines experience with emerging talent.

The reunion between both teams will reignite the intensity and drama that define AFCON, in a clash where the memory of Cameroon 2023 will be impossible to ignore.
