Ivory Coast international Jeremie Boga’s agent has explained why his client’s proposed transfer to Italian giants SSC Napoli failed to materialize.
The attacking midfielder enjoyed a successful 2019/20 season in which he helped his club, Sassuolo finish eighth on the Italian Serie A standings.
Boga was heavily linked with several clubs including Napoli, French club Rennes, German side Bayer Leverkusen and Spanish outfit Sevilla.
His brother, Daniel, who is also his agent, confirmed that Sassuolo refused to sell the 23-year-old player to their Serie A rivals Napoli.
“I don’t know if Napoli will try to take him again, we have to ask [Napoli sporting director Cristiano] Giuntoli,” Daniel told Il Martino.”
Napoli tried hard to take him, but Sassuolo didn’t want to sell and wanted more money. It is not certain that in the future it cannot be otherwise.
Relations with the club are excellent, it is not Napoli’s fault if they didn’t get him but Sassuolo who didn’t want to sell him, he added.
“We will certainly talk about it again in the future.”
He was nurtured in the English giants Chelsea’s academy and he played once for; Boga netted 11 goals in 35 matches in the league for Sassuolo including a memorable one against Juventus in December 2019.
