A China-donated smart rehabilitation device has officially been handed over and put into use at the Clinical Emergency Hospital in Bishkek, marking a new step in health and technology cooperation between China and Kyrgyzstan.
The Digital Rehabilitation Therapist (DRT), developed by a Chinese team, is an intelligent rehabilitation system designed to assist patients and healthcare professionals through technology-supported rehabilitation services. According to its development team, the system draws on a database containing more than 100,000 clinical cases from Peking University Third Hospital.

The device integrates three-dimensional vision and artificial intelligence-based motion recognition technologies. Using I-PRE technology and an adaptive human-pose recognition algorithm, the system can identify 35 key points on the human body and provide rehabilitation guidance based on individualized medical movement protocols.
The DRT is designed to support rehabilitation services across different settings, including hospitals, communities and homes. It can also enable continuous tracking and management of patients throughout the rehabilitation process, potentially helping medical professionals monitor rehabilitation progress more efficiently.
The deployment of the technology represents a practical step in expanding China’s smart rehabilitation solutions into Central Asia and reflects growing health cooperation between China and Kyrgyzstan under the Belt and Road Initiative and within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Kyrgyzstan was among the early countries to support and participate in the Belt and Road Initiative. The introduction of the DRT is also part of broader efforts by Chinese medical and technology partners to contribute to the Health Silk Road and expand access to technology-supported healthcare.
Wu Yan, a representative of the DRT development team, said the team would continue promoting smart rehabilitation technologies in more countries and regions, with the aim of enabling more people to benefit from Chinese rehabilitation solutions.
At the handover ceremony, Tilek Mamadaliev, first deputy minister of health of Kyrgyzstan, expressed appreciation for the donation, saying the intelligent digital rehabilitation system would bring tangible health benefits to patients in the country.
Sabyrbek Dzhumabekov, an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic and director of the National Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics, also welcomed deeper medical cooperation between the two countries.
Dzhumabekov called for stronger exchanges between Chinese and Kyrgyz medical professionals, including study visits, participation in major academic events, joint research and the sharing of medical experience.
The introduction of the DRT adds a new dimension to China-Kyrgyzstan health cooperation by combining medical expertise with artificial intelligence, digital technologies and rehabilitation services. The project also highlights the growing role of smart healthcare solutions in supporting patients and strengthening medical cooperation across borders.
