CAIRO -The 2020/2021 budget will continue to prioritize health, education and social conditions, Finance Minister Mohamed Mait said Saturday.
“Building the Egyptians” is the bath recent budgets have proclaimed; the new budget will support scientific research, undergraduate education, schools, as well as managing subsidies so they reach low-income people, the minister said in a Saturday statement.
The health sector was allocated LE258.6 billion in the 2019/2020 budget, including investments, medications, subsidized baby formula, state-funded treatments, and health insurance for those who cannot afford to pay for one, such as women breadwinners, children younger than school age, students, and farmers.
A total of LE241.6 billion were allocated for pre-university education, LE122 billion for higher education and LE60.4 billion for scientific research.
Food commodities, public transport, social housing, Upper Egypt development and supplying homes with natural gas were all subsidized with LE115.1 billion.
The government will continue to provide for initiatives in favor of low-income Egyptians, such as 100 Million Healthy Lives, allocating proper housing units for the ihabitants of slums and hazardous areas, and giving discounts on certain supplies and commodities and bigger discounts for those who have ration cars. Such discounts amounted to LE12.25 billion paid from the the state budget.
