Discussions to this effect was the centre of an audience President Paul Biya of Cameroon granted visiting Equatoguinean Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons.

Minister Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima who also bearer of a special message from the President ObiangNguemaMbasogo was received in audience at the Unity Palace Monday September 13.

Speaking to reporters shortly after the audience, the Equatoguinean envoy said: “Clearly, the message is continue with the motivation of the South-South cooperation and at the same time to be able to work on different initiatives that all the Presidents of the African Union had as concerns the African free trade…inter-trade of CEMAC and the inter-trade of Africa is very important. We cannot be forever independent of investments from America, Europe, and Asia. We need to start trading between us,” Minister Mbaga Obiang stated

Both Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea have committed their governments on the path of the cooperation. South-South cooperation, experts say, is a clear path for economic competitiveness for the sub region and continent.

“I recently concluded the first cargo of methanol from Equatorial Guinea to Gabon. I just came from a trip to Nigeria to be able to discuss and sign agreements regarding the petroleum and gas from Nigeria to Equatorial Guinea and of course we are now here in Cameroon to discuss other activities that we can do,”Mbaga Obiang revealed.

The Equatoguinean envoy is the first high-profile guest to be received by President Biya since his return to Europe after a brief private stay and after he, hosted the last Summit of Heads of States in the CEMAC Sub region via videoconference in Yaounde.

Their discussions also touched on other issues especially the challenges of the moment as concerns relations between both countries, the sub region and the continent at large.
