A Times Square appearance by Davido and Aliko Dangote has drawn global attention to Nigeria’s landmark refinery IPO, as the country opens a new chapter in public participation in one of Africa’s biggest industrial projects.

Nigeria’s industrial ambitions took a high-profile turn in New York as music star Davido and businessman Aliko Dangote appeared together in Times Square while digital billboards promoted the public offering of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals.

The moment brought together two of Nigeria’s most internationally recognized figures from entertainment and business against the backdrop of one of the world’s most visible commercial districts. The refinery’s campaign is part of a landmark initial public offering that is giving Nigerian and eligible African investors an opportunity to acquire shares in the company.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery IPO opened on September 14, 2026, offering 4.1 billion ordinary shares at ₦525 each. The offer is scheduled to close on October 13, with a minimum subscription of 10 shares, valued at ₦5,250. If fully subscribed, the offering is expected to raise about ₦2.15 trillion, or roughly $1.6 billion.

The Nigerian Exchange Group has described the transaction as a major moment for the country’s capital market. The refinery became the first petroleum refinery to be offered to investors through the Nigerian stock market in the Exchange’s 66-year history, opening the door for retail, institutional and eligible African investors to participate.

The public offer also represents another stage in the development of the Lagos-based refinery, which has become a major part of Nigeria’s energy and industrial landscape. Reuters reported that the facility is operating at a capacity of about 700,000 barrels per day and that proceeds from the IPO are intended to support further expansion.

The Times Square appearance added an international dimension to the campaign. Davido, one of Africa’s leading music artists, and Dangote, one of Nigeria’s most prominent business figures, were photographed beneath digital advertising promoting the refinery and its public offering. Nigerian media reported that Davido also shared images and video of the encounter on social media, bringing additional attention to the campaign.

For Nigeria, the public offering extends beyond a single corporate transaction. It places a major Nigerian industrial company directly within the country’s capital-market ecosystem and provides a mechanism for broader ownership participation. The Nigerian Exchange said the offer is designed to connect a major domestic enterprise with both local and African capital.

The campaign has also highlighted the growing role of digital investment channels in expanding access to financial markets. The official IPO website states that prospective investors should use only approved receiving agents and electronic application channels and review the prospectus and associated risk information before subscribing.

As the October 13 deadline approaches, the refinery’s public offering continues to put Nigeria’s industrial capacity, capital markets and private-sector ambitions in the international spotlight. The Times Square images provided a striking visual moment, but the larger story is unfolding through Nigeria’s financial market — where a major homegrown industrial enterprise is opening part of its ownership structure to investors in Nigeria and across eligible African markets.
