The Jonchams Music Awards 2023 have crowned Jhonson Killer as the best artist of Equatorial Guinea, marking a significant milestone in the career of the popular military-style singer. Known for his anthem “Águila,” which gained international recognition after being adopted by the national football team during their entrance to the locker room at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 in Ivory Coast, Jhonson Killer has solidified his place in the history of Equatoguinean music.

Equatorial Guinea: towards a professional artistic ecosystem

Following the previous edition held in the city of Bata, this year’s ceremony returned to the Hotel 3 de Agosto in Malabo, once again becoming the stage to honor the most influential figures in the Equatoguinean music scene in 2023. The Jonchams Music Awards are the most prestigious award that all local artists aspire to, working tirelessly throughout the year to immortalize their musical successes.

In this ninth edition, Jhonson Killer was the star of the night, winning two of the most coveted awards. The author of hits like “Águila” and “Esconderse” took home the “Best Male Artist” award, succeeding Achana, who won this category in 2022. Additionally, he was also awarded “Best National Artist,” further solidifying his dominance in the local music industry.
