Royal Air Maroc has announced the temporary suspension of all flights to Malabo following a recent incident at the city’s international airport. The Boeing 737 of Ceiba Intercontinental, a Guinean-flagged carrier, skidded off the runway after landing in “adverse weather conditions.” Fortunately, the incident resulted in minimal injuries, with no fatalities reported, but it has prompted a thorough review of the airport’s conditions.

In a telephone address to the state channel, Guinea Ecuatorial’s Minister of Civil Aviation and Airport Infrastructures, Norberto Bartolomé Monsuy Mañe Andeme, explained that “visibility was extremely low and the runway was wet,” factors that led to the aircraft’s skid.

As a result of the unexpected airport closure, Royal Air Maroc has informed its passengers that flights to Malabo are temporarily suspended. The Moroccan airline has stated that the next update regarding the resumption of flights will be issued on August 30, around 19:30. In the meantime, affected travelers are advised to stay tuned to official communications for itinerary information.

The airport closure has caused significant disruptions to the country’s air connectivity, affecting not only Royal Air Maroc but also other airlines operating in the region. Passengers heading to Malabo are facing flight cancellations or rescheduling, and authorities are working to resolve the situation as swiftly as possible.

Inspections and repairs on the runway are underway to ensure the airport can resume operations safely. Authorities have urged passengers and airlines to follow updates through official channels to avoid further inconvenience. The Malabo airport is expected to reopen soon, restoring normalcy to the country’s air travel connections.
