China has reiterated its dedication to fostering a stable, healthy, and enduring relationship with the United States. In a statement on Friday, Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged both nations to embrace the responsibility and role befitting major countries, aiming to provide the world with “unwavering certainty and positive energy.”

Speaking at an event commemorating the 45th anniversary of China-US diplomatic relations, Wang emphasized that bilateral cooperation is not optional but a necessary and vital commitment. The ceremony, held at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing, gathered diplomats, business leaders, and scholars.

This reception followed the exchange of congratulatory letters between President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden on the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Both leaders pledged to continue advancing bilateral ties, building on the progress made during their summit in San Francisco in November.

Wang underscored the significance of peace as the foundational element of China-US relations, highlighting that the absence of conflict and confrontation is the most crucial peace dividend for humanity.

He emphasized that win-win cooperation is a fundamental aspect of China-US interaction, citing the substantial economic ties between the two nations. Trade reached approximately $760 billion in 2022, with two-way investments exceeding $260 billion, reflecting the interconnectedness in global industrial and supply chains.

Wang stressed the need for peaceful coexistence and effective management of disagreements as the top priority. He urged against allowing differences to lead to confrontation or power politics, emphasizing the importance of seeking common ground while managing disagreements.

The Foreign Minister called for removing barriers to exchanges, breaking information cocoons, fostering closer links between the two peoples, and generating more positive energy for China-US relations.

Shari Bistransky, Deputy Public Affairs Officer of the US Embassy in China, expressed optimism about the collaboration between the two nations in 2024, citing the momentum created by the San Francisco summit.
