The government of Comoros has taken an important step toward digital modernization with the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB), which has approved funding of €9.51 million to drive the country’s digital transformation. This Comoros Economy Digitalization Support Project, with a total value of €22.53 million, aims to improve the accessibility and quality of public services through advanced digital administration.
Key initiatives of the project include the construction of a new data center and the modernization of the existing one. Additionally, a public-private partnership (PPP) is planned to manage and expand these centers, enabling the efficient mobilization of resources and private expertise. This collaboration has the potential to optimize public spending while modernizing services.
The digitalization will not only benefit public administration but also promote local entrepreneurship through the creation of an incubator that will drive digital innovation. Furthermore, the implementation of a digital administration platform, along with an electronic payment system, promises to significantly improve the efficiency of government services.
The project also addresses data protection, which is crucial in the digital age. A National Authority for the Protection of Personal Data and Access to Information will be established to ensure data security. In addition, the University of Comoros will receive financial support to enhance digital education in the country.
With these measures, Comoros is strategically positioning itself in the global digital arena, strengthening its ability to compete in an increasingly interconnected economy and providing its citizens with more efficient access to essential services.
