The Government of Equatorial Guinea has announced a contribution of 1 million euros to support Spain following the devastating impact of the Isolated High-Level Depression (DANA), which has resulted in a tragic toll of over 210 deaths and severe damage, particularly in the province of Valencia. The decision was formalized on November 4 during a high-level meeting presided over by Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue at the Palace of the People in Malabo, with the participation of top government officials.

This assistance, amounting to over 650 million CFA francs, aims to strengthen rescue and support efforts in the areas most affected by the floods and river overflows. Nguema Obiang emphasized that this contribution “is not just a gesture of solidarity, but a reflection of the deep historical and diplomatic ties that unite Equatorial Guinea and Spain.” The Vice President recalled Spain’s assistance during the tragedy of the Bata explosions in 2021, highlighting that such cooperation is essential in critical moments.

The DANA weather phenomenon, commonly known as “cold drop,” has wreaked havoc on infrastructure and displaced thousands, underscoring the vulnerability of communities to extreme weather events. The response of the Spanish authorities, who have declared three days of national mourning, seeks to honor the victims and mobilize recovery efforts throughout the country.

On his X account, Nguema Obiang stated that “Equatorial Guinea cannot remain indifferent to the magnitude of this tragedy,” reiterating his solidarity and support for the Spanish people. This act of assistance reinforces Equatorial Guinea’s commitment to the principles of international cooperation and humanitarian aid, highlighting the importance of joining efforts in facing crises that know no borders and are exacerbated by climate change.
