France takes note of the press release issued by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on April 22, recognizing Umaro Sissoco Embalo’s victory in the presidential election in Guinea Bissau and inviting him to form a new government that takes into account the results of the legislative elections of March 10.
We call on all political and institutional actors to abide by this decision and to work toward stabilizing the country while respecting the rule of law, in a manner that enables Guinea Bissau’s institutions to focus on the country’s development and economic recovery.
France applauds the commitment of all of Guinea Bissau’s partners in their support for the election process, and especially ECOWAS’s vital efforts to resolve the political crisis in that country.
