Fifty violators of COVID-19 guidelines have been arrested by the Kwara State COVID-19 technical committee at a nightclub in Ilorin, the state capital.
The violators are being kept at the state’s quarantine centre in Ilorin.
He said the operation was led by the state chairman of the state COVID-19 technical committee, and deputy governor, Mr Kayode Alabi.
He said, “around 1 am, we got information that some people were at a club inside Kwara hotels. The deputy governor, accompanied by me, and some security operatives raided the club and arrested so many boys and girls within the age of 20 and 30.
”Around 2 am, we brought them to the hajj camp quarantine centre. We made them comfortable overnight, and early this morning, we took their samples for COVID-19.
“Their arrest which may lead to prosecution, is to send signal that we can’t tolerate such conduct.
“Violations would henceforth attract strong response from the government,” he added.
Dr Oladiji insisted that the ban on nightcremains in force to prevent further spread of coronavirus.
He said the government will also “Take appropriate actions against any officials of the Kwara state government owned hotel found to have authorized the violation of the existing ban to send signal that such behaviour will not be tolerated.”
