1. Nigeria on Thursday marked the 60th anniversary of her freedom from colonial masters. The event was, however, greeted with a nationwide protest tagged ‘Revolution Now.’

2. The peaceful protesters of Coalition of Revolution (CORE) movement Thursday, decried the brutality they suffered in the hands of operatives of the Department of Security Service (DSS) in Osun State.

The protesters, who gathered at the popular Olaiya in Osogbo on Thursday to protest the state of the nation, were allegedly dispersed, arrested and brutalized by the DSS.

3. President Muhammadu Buhari has announced a new price for the pump price of petrol in the country.

Buhari said fuel will now be sold at N161 per liter in Nigeria, noting that other nations such as Ghana, Niger, Chad, Saudi Arabia and other oil-producing countries sell petrol on a higher prices than Nigeria.

4. The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has called on the Federal Government to provide a resilient base for sustainable development for the wellbeing of all Nigerians regardless of ethnic and religious orientation in the country.

Ayuba Wabba, NLC President, who made the call in a message to workers and Nigerians at the country’s 60th Independence Anniversary, said that the journey of Nigeria’s nationhood could not be complete without citing the timeless and great contribution of the Nigerian working class in the liberation and developmental struggle for the nation.

5. Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum was warned against travelling few days before his September 25 trip to Baga where over 11 security personnel lost their lives.

A former Deputy Director of the Department of State Service (DSS), Dennis Amakiri, who this revelation, claimed Governor Zulum was warned earlier against moving but he ignored it.

6. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday night, announced 153 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total case diagnosed in the country to 59,001.

The new cases were reported from 14 states – Lagos (81), Rivers (21), FCT (11), Ogun (8), Kaduna (7), Oyo (6), Akwa Ibom (5), Osun (3), Katsina (3), Edo (2), Ebonyi (2), Nasarawa (2), Plateau (1) and Kano (1).

7. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to rejig its cabinet and save Nigeria from collapse, even on the occasion of the 60th anniversary.

The party in its statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan asked the President to “inject new blood” into his administration.

8. United States President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania have tested positive to COVID-19.

Trump, who announced this in a tweet on his Twitter page on Friday, said they will be quarantined and recovery process will begin immediately.

9. The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has said President Muhammadu Buhari has approved for Nigeria to take loans.

According to the former Governor of Rivers State, the loans are meant for infrastructural development in several parts of the country.

10. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the just-concluded Edo State governorship election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has hinted that he could seek legal redress over the outcome of the poll.

According to him, a lot of people have been asking about his next line of action but he would decide on what next to do in no distant time.
