1. Governor Ifeanyi of Enugu State, Wednesday night, summoned an emergency State Security Council meeting, following the deadly clash between members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and security agencies.

The meeting, according to a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, will hold on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at the Executive Council Chambers, Lion Building, Government House, Enugu, and scheduled for 2pm.

2. The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday announced that Nigeria recorded 221 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.

The 221 new cases announced on Wednesday was the lowest number of cases recorded in the country for some time.

3. A southeast group, under the aegis of Alaigbo Development Foundation, ADF, on Wednesday, petitioned international communities to wade into the gruesome murder of over 21 members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

The leadership of the group, in a statement signed by its President, Mr. Abia Onyike, however, tasked President Mohammadu Buhari to immediately remove the ban on IPOB activities.

4. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Wednesday, lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari over what it called attempts to cover the failures of his administration by new promises to members of the international community.

The party said Buhari can no longer face Nigerians due to his unfulfilled promises listed a fresh list of agenda to foreign envoys “already aware of the failures of his government.”

5. President Muhammadu Buhari has said the priority of ECOWAS in the Republic of Mali is to secure the country, which is now largely occupied by terrorists.

The President spoke as he received briefings from ECOWAS Special Envoy to the West African country, former President Goodluck Jonathan.

6. The Kwara State government, on Wednesday, discharged five Covid-19 patients, just as four new cases were confirmed.

It said the number of confirmed cases has risen to 940, while active cases stand at 170.

7. The Ilorin Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has recovered an additional N130m from treasury looters for Kwara State.

The new zonal head of the commission, DCDS Oseni Kazeem Oluwasina, disclosed this during a courtesy visit with the management of the zonal office to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in Ilorin on Wednesday.

8. The Joint Public Service Negotiating Council in Taraba, on Wednesday, gave the state government a seven-day ultimatum to sign the N30,000 minimum wage agreement or face industrial action.

The Chairman of the council, Mr. Wilfred Kwanchi, decried the inability of the state government to implement the N30, 000 national minimum wage as agreed between it and labour, accusing the government of insensitivity to the plight of workers in the state.

9. The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has said the state has passed the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He, however, said there was the need for vigilance, saying the scourge was not over.

10. Nigeria President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Wednesday, decried what he described as the “terribly slow pace” of justice administration in the Nigerian courts.

Buhari, who recalled how it took so long for the courts to decide and eventually dismiss the election petitions he filed to challenge his losses in the 2003, 2007, and 2011 presidential polls, declared that the Nigerian justice system needed an urgent reform.
