Pope Leo XIV concluded his visit to Equatorial Guinea on Thursday, marking the end of his African tour after several days of celebrations, public gatherings and messages of unity that were warmly received across the country.

At Malabo International Airport, the Pope was seen off by government authorities and religious leaders in a warm and respectful farewell ceremony. Before boarding his flight to Rome, he greeted officials and exchanged final gestures of goodwill, concluding a visit that had drawn thousands of faithful and widespread public enthusiasm.

His departure from Equatorial Guinea also marked the end of an 11-day Apostolic Journey across Africa, during which he visited Algeria, Cameroon, Angola and Equatorial Guinea. Across each nation, the pontiff was welcomed with warmth and reverence, reflecting the deep spiritual connection shared with communities across the continent.

Throughout his journey, Pope Leo XIV delivered a consistent message centered on peace, justice and solidarity. In meetings with national leaders and public gatherings with citizens, he spoke of the importance of unity, social harmony and the need to build inclusive societies grounded in dignity and compassion.

In Equatorial Guinea, the final stop of his tour, the Pope’s presence carried particular significance. From large public gatherings to moments of reflection with clergy, the visit inspired a sense of collective pride and reinforced the country’s strong Catholic identity.

The Pope’s itinerary also highlighted key themes of development and human dignity. His engagements emphasized education, healthcare and community cohesion, leaving a lasting impression on both institutions and individuals.

As his aircraft departed Malabo in the early afternoon, many reflected on a visit that extended beyond ceremony. For citizens across Equatorial Guinea, it was a moment of recognition, connection and shared faith—one that placed the nation at the heart of a historic continental journey.

Pope Leo XIV is expected to arrive in Rome later in the evening, where he will conclude his trip with a traditional in-flight press conference, offering reflections on his experiences across Africa. While the journey has come to an end, its message continues to resonate. Across the continent, the visit is remembered as a powerful reminder of Africa’s spiritual vitality, its growing global presence and its enduring capacity to inspire unity and hope.
