Tanzania continues to solidify its position as one of Africa’s top nature tourism destinations with the upcoming opening of Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection—an initiative that combines high-end accommodation with sustainable practices and respect for the local environment. The camp will be located between Central Serengeti and the Western Corridor, along one of the key routes of the Great Migration, where thousands of wildebeests, zebras, and antelopes pass through each year.

Developed in collaboration with Marriott International, the new establishment will feature 16 tented units, including a two-bedroom villa. Amenities will include private terraces, fire pits, and retractable roofs for stargazing. Additional services such as a spa, gym, swimming pool, and a communal restaurant inspired by traditional regional gatherings are also planned.

According to Jerome Briet, Chief Development Officer for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa at Marriott, the project aims to integrate the landscape and culture of the Serengeti with the brand’s design and hospitality standards. “The natural and cultural diversity of Tanzania provides a valuable setting for initiatives that combine tourism with conservation,” he stated.

The camp’s design is influenced by the heritage of the Ikoma community, which inhabits the area, and includes sustainable practices intended to minimize environmental impact. Planned activities include daytime and nighttime safaris, guided walks, hot air balloon rides, and cultural encounters with local communities.

Rishen Patel, the project’s lead developer, emphasized that the goal is to offer an experience that honors the environment and fosters a deeper connection with the Serengeti ecosystem. The camp joins a broader effort to promote high-quality tourism in Tanzania, balancing development, conservation, and community benefit.
