Ivory Coast is consolidating its position as a financial hub in Africa with the announcement of the new state-of-the-art headquarters of the African Development Bank (AfDB), which will be built in its commercial capital, Abidjan. The decision, unanimously approved by the Bank’s Board of Governors, reflects Ivory Coast’s key role as the host of one of the continent’s major financial institutions.

AfDB President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina highlighted the importance of the project for the country and the region, noting, “Ivory Coast has been a welcoming home and a strategic partner for the Bank. This new headquarters symbolizes our confidence in the future of Abidjan as an African and global financial hub”. Adesina praised the strong support of the Ivorian government, led by President Alassane Ouattara, in making this vision a reality.

The new headquarters will not only be a symbol of modernity but will also reinforce Abidjan’s position as a hub for green growth and energy efficiency in Africa. The building, designed to offer cutting-edge facilities, will serve as a space for interaction between the Bank, its shareholders, and key players in African development, strengthening Ivory Coast’s role as a host of transformative initiatives.

Adama Koné, Dean of the AfDB Board of Governors and representative of Ivory Coast, presented Dr. Adesina with the title deed for the land where the headquarters will be built. Koné emphasized that this investment is a testament to the strong bond between the country and the AfDB, highlighting the Bank’s confidence in Ivory Coast’s economic stability and potential.

The construction of this headquarters strengthens Abidjan’s position as a strategic center for investment and development. By reaffirming its commitment to Ivory Coast, the Bank not only accelerates Africa’s transformation but also positions Abidjan as a city prepared to lead the future of the continent.
