Gabon has taken another major step in its digital transformation with the inauguration of its first Tier III international-standard data centre, strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure and expanding its capacity to securely host critical data and digital services.
The facility was officially inaugurated on July 4, 2026, under the leadership of President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema. Developed by ST DIGITAL GABON under the leadership of Laïka Mba, the project reflects Gabon’s growing focus on digital infrastructure as an important foundation for national development alongside sectors such as energy and transport.

Designed to provide high levels of reliability, availability and security, the Tier III facility gives government institutions and businesses access to professional data-hosting infrastructure within Gabon. The development is expected to strengthen the country’s ability to manage sensitive digital information locally while supporting the continued expansion of its digital economy.
The new data centre is positioned to support a wide range of applications, including digital public services, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and private-sector operations. By increasing domestic hosting capacity, the facility can also help create a stronger environment for innovation and improve the resilience of Gabon’s growing digital ecosystem.
A key part of the initiative is its support for emerging businesses. During the inauguration, the Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalization and Innovation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ST DIGITAL GABON to improve access to the facility. Under the agreement, ministry-supported startups will be able to access professional hosting services at preferential rates.
The arrangement gives young technology companies an opportunity to use enterprise-grade infrastructure as they develop and scale their businesses. It also strengthens the connection between national digital infrastructure and Gabon’s growing innovation ecosystem.
Speaking during the inauguration, Mark-Alexandre Doumba highlighted the growing importance of digital infrastructure to modern public services, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and business competitiveness. The project, he said, supports Gabon’s ambition to develop a stronger and more inclusive digital environment.
For Gabon, the opening of the data centre adds an important layer to the country’s wider digital transformation agenda. Secure and reliable data infrastructure can support government digitalisation, encourage technology investment and provide businesses with stronger foundations for developing new digital services.
