China has reached a major milestone in the construction of Asia’s largest offshore crude oil processing platform, with the main structure of the Huizhou 19-6 platform topped out in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province.
The milestone, completed on August 22, marks the latest stage in the development of the Huizhou 19-6 oilfield, a major offshore discovery in the Pearl River Mouth Basin with reserves exceeding 100 million tonnes.

The three-story, eight-legged platform stands approximately 85 meters high, equivalent to a 30-story residential building, and covers an area comparable to nearly 13 standard basketball courts. Its designed floatover weight is about 29,000 tonnes.
The platform will serve as a central facility for the processing and development of crude oil from the Huizhou 19-6 oilfield. The field is described as China’s first large-scale offshore oilfield with reserves exceeding 100 million tonnes discovered in deep to ultra-deep clastic rock formations.
The completion of the main structure now allows the project to move into its next phase. Construction teams will undertake pipeline installation, cable laying and equipment commissioning before the platform becomes operational.
The development reflects China’s continued efforts to expand offshore oil production and strengthen domestic energy security. The Huizhou 19-6 field is expected to play an important role in the country’s ability to efficiently develop offshore resources in increasingly challenging geological environments.
Once completed and operational, the platform will support the integrated development and production of the large-scale oilfield, contributing to China’s crude oil supply while advancing its offshore engineering capabilities.
The topping-out of the Huizhou 19-6 platform therefore represents more than a construction milestone. It marks another step in the development of one of China’s significant offshore energy projects and the broader expansion of deepwater oil and gas production in the Pearl River Mouth Basin.
