Chinese President Xi Jinping concluded his participation in the 31st APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Peru, highlighting key initiatives to address the challenges facing the Asia-Pacific region. In a speech focused on inclusion and innovation, Xi emphasized the need to build a more balanced and sustainable regional economy.

“Cooperation in the Asia-Pacific faces historical tensions, from protectionism to growing geopolitical divisions. It is our responsibility to lead solutions that benefit everyone”, Xi declared. China presented concrete proposals, such as strengthening green supply chains, advancing digital trade, and promoting a fairer global economic governance.

Technological innovation emerged as a central pillar in Xi’s proposals. He urged countries to capitalize on advances in artificial intelligence and 5G connectivity to drive the regional economy. “Growth must be driven by technology, but with an inclusive approach that ensures shared benefits”, the Chinese leader stated.

China also reaffirmed its commitment to regional trade through agreements like the RCEP and flagship projects under the Belt and Road Initiative, such as the Chancay Port in Peru. These initiatives aim to strengthen trade connections in the Asia-Pacific and promote more equitable economic development.

Focusing on equity, Xi called for support for small and medium-sized enterprises and improving household incomes across the region. “True development not only generates wealth but distributes it equitably. Shared prosperity is the foundation of an inclusive global economy”, Xi said, highlighting China’s achievements in poverty reduction.

China’s commitment to innovation, trade, and sustainability positions the country as a key partner in leading economic recovery in the Asia-Pacific. Xi concluded with a clear message: “The future of the global economy must focus on people and the building of collective progress”.
