This gesture is part of the Project for the extension of continental aquaculture (Provac 2).

Benin’s response will boost local fisheries production. “Globally, fisheries resources are plunging. There is no better way than to work to develop everything that is potentially exploitable to produce fish,” said Gaston Dossouhoui, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.

Worth more than 150 million CFA francs, this equipment will boost the morale of fish farmers and support fish production in this difficult period due to Covid-19.

For Gaston Djihinto, Director of Fisheries Production, the installation of this equipment is proof of the government’s willingness, through the Project for the Development of Continental Aquaculture, to strengthen the technical capacities of fish farmers and support them in the local production of fish to the detriment of imports.

The beneficiaries know that they have no right to make mistakes. Their spokesman, Romaric Aïzonou, president of the Communal Union of Fish Farmers of Ouidah, makes the promise: “By supporting us with nearly sixty tons of fish feed, we are contributing to our production cost at nearly 70%. We promise to make good use of it and will let you know the results by the end of the first half of 2022”.

If this promise is kept, all the people will feel the positive impacts of local fish production.
