Chevron has announced an oil and gas condensate discovery at the 105-4X exploration well in Block 0, offshore Angola, marking another positive development for the company’s exploration programme in the country.
The well was drilled in the Lower Congo Basin and is operated by Chevron subsidiary Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited. The company said the well encountered more than 2,000 feet of oil and gas condensate column, including more than 300 feet of net pay, with early results indicating strong reservoir quality.
Chevron Vice President of Exploration Kevin McLachlan said the discovery represents the beginning of a new phase of evaluation, with further technical work expected to determine the size of the resource and whether it can be developed using existing nearby infrastructure. The possibility of connecting a new discovery to established offshore facilities could improve the commercial prospects of the resource by reducing the infrastructure required for a potential development.

Chevron said the discovery builds on its long history in Angola, where it has been involved in exploration and production activities for decades. The company began geological surveys in the country in 1954 and made its first offshore discovery in 1966.
The latest find also follows the start-up of the South N’dola Platform in Block 0, which delivered first oil in December 2025. The project reached production slightly more than two years after construction began on the platform.
Chevron is also expanding its exploration activities elsewhere in Sub-Saharan Africa. The company currently produces around 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day net in the region and has strengthened its portfolio through new acreage and exploration activity, including recent successes in Nigeria.
Additional exploration programmes are planned across several African markets, including Namibia, Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea. Chevron said each successful exploration well provides additional geological information that can help guide future investment and development decisions across its regional portfolio.
For Angola, the discovery adds to ongoing efforts to maintain exploration activity, attract investment and develop the country’s offshore petroleum resources. Further evaluation of the 105-4X discovery will determine its full resource potential and possible development options.
