In a strategic move following the African Energy Week in Cape Town, the African Energy Chamber (AEC) led by Executive Chairman NJ Ayuk is advancing its mission to eradicate energy poverty by 2030. A delegation from AEC, including Senior Vice President Verner Ayukeba, is on a charm offensive in Houston, Texas, known for its energy expertise.

NJ Ayuk emphasized the importance of Texas as an opportunity to showcase Africa’s energy potential to the world. AEC held productive discussions with energy stakeholders in Houston, and further engagements are planned across the USA.

The AEC mission comes after a similar visit to Guyana and participation in the African Caribbean Trade and Investment Forum 2023. Ayuk stressed the need for a united voice in the global south to promote trade and business and emphasized the importance of energy development in low-carbon, sustainable ways.

The Houston visit aims to strengthen partnerships, drive investments in exploration, capacity building, and local content, and create opportunities for Africans in the energy sector. Big projects and investments are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

NJ Ayuk highlighted the significance of US investments in Africa, emphasizing the continent’s attractiveness. He acknowledged the Biden administration’s support in improving energy access for millions without electricity and the potential for investment and development in Africa.

Deputy Assistant Secretary Josh Volz’s presence at the African Energy Week was well-received, showcasing US commitment to partnering with Africa. Volz outlined initiatives for clean energy investment and emphasized Africa’s role in good governance and creating an enabling environment.
