The protest was attended by the leader of Nigeria’s Revolution Now campaign, Omoyele Sowore.
Protesters demonstrate against Nigeria’s controversial Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) police unit in front of its headquarters Thursday in Abuja and its on going to demand the branch be scrapped, according to local media chatting “End SARS”. Protester poured red paint on the street in front of the building – a symbol that refers to the alleges killings and oppression by SARS officers.
Last weekend, the Nigerian police announced another ban on routine patrols by SARS and other tactical squads of the Nigerian police, the fourth ban in four years, because of growing anger over harassment and abuse by officers..
“Every citizen of Nigeria should be upset,” Lagos state government spokesman Gboyega Akosile said in a Tweet, sharing a video of Lagos state Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat addressing protesters and sharing his own story of harassment.
As of today, in the town of Ogbomosho, the police is said to be shooting at the peaceful protester and so far a student of lautech as been shout dead.
