Mzava completed the deal Monday as he was unveiled alongside nine other players including former Bafana Bafana star Siphiwe Tshabalala. This is Mzava’s fifth club in the Premier Soccer League since he moved to South Africa in 2011.

The former Azam Tigers and defunct Escom United defender was offloaded at Highlands Park after the team sold its PSL status to TS Galaxy.

Mzava was excited after completing the deal yesterday.

“It feels great to be part of the Amazulu family. I have just arrived in Durban and I am excited,” he said.

Mzava might make his Amazulu debut this weekend when the team face Orlando Pirates.

The Flames defender excused himself from two friendly matches against Zambia and Zimbabwe as he was completing the deal. Apart from Mzava and Tshabalala, Amazulu also unveiled Luvuyo Memela, Augustine Mulenga, Sicelo Mkhize, Siphelele Nene, Makhehleni Makhaula, Thembela Sikhakhane, Samnkelo Gwazela and Siphelele Mthembu.

South Africa-based Malawian football journalist, Benjamin Nyirenda said Mzava would succeed at Amazulu.

“This is good move for Mzava. He still has a great career ahead of him and it was very sad that TS Galaxy could not keep him after buying Highlands Park. I know he will do very well at Amazulu. He has been in Durban before for Golden Arrows so he is familiar with the environment,” Nyirenda said.

“This is also good for the national team. You need players competing at higher level in South Africa or Europe and Mzava has proven that he can be dependable defender for both club and country. He is a really good signing for Amazulu.”

Mzava has been one of the most consistent Malawian players in the PSL for three consecutive seasons and attracted interest from giants including Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

The towering defender was listed among 14 most valuable foreign players alongside Orlando Pirates and Flames striker Gabadinho Mhango. Mzava was ranked sixth at R17.3million whereas Mhango was ranked eighth at R15.2 million.

Mzava moved to South Africa when he signed for Bloemfontein Celtic in 2011 before moving to Mpumalanga Black Aces on loan in 2015.

But he spent two seasons at Golden Arrows before moving to Park at the start of this year. Mzava also had unsuccessful trials with French giants AS Monaco and Hapoel Tel-Aviv in Israel
