The African Energy Week (AEW) marks its fifth anniversary, proving the continent can lead globally with multi-billion-dollar deals in negotiation and the attention of the sector’s top influencers. Launched in 2021 by the African Energy Chamber (AEC), AEW has grown into the continent’s largest energy event, turning Cape Town into Africa’s annual hub for innovation and energy investment. “Africa has the resources, talent, and vision to lead,” says NJ Ayuk, AEC CEO. “AEW has shown the world what Africa is capable of.”

Voices Shaping Africa’s Energy Future
Pan African Visions’ special edition, “AEW Turns 5: From Vision to Global Energy Leader”, highlights the insights of leaders shaping Africa’s energy agenda. Key figures include Gwede Mantashe, South Africa’s Energy Minister; Jean-Richard Itoua, Congo’s energy advocate; and Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, outlining plans to make Nigeria a regional energy powerhouse.

Other notable leaders include Foday Mansaray, Director of Sierra Leone’s Petroleum Agency; Omar Ibrahim Farouk, Secretary-General of the AEB; Proscovia Nabbanja, CEO of Uganda’s National Oil Authority; and strategic negotiators like René Awambeng. In the private sector, Dietsmann and Forvis Mazars drive energy innovation and expansion across Africa. The issue also features interviews and analyses with Wale Tinubu (OANDO), Maxime Ominga (SNPC), Gabriel Obiang Lima (CAPS), Vermer Ayukeba (AEC), and international experts Nikki Martin (EnerGEO) and Jude Kearney (Asafo).

AEW 2025: A Growing Global Energy Platform
From a regional forum to a global investment and cooperation platform, AEW reinforces Africa’s strategic role in the global energy transition. Beyond positioning the continent as an energy solutions provider, it promotes industrialization and local development. The next edition will take place from September 29 to October 3, 2025, in Cape Town. With record attendance expected, AEW confirms Africa is ready to lead the energy of the future.
