Namibia will host IAEOGS 2026 as African energy leaders seek to close the continent’s $130 billion annual economic losses linked to unreliable power while unlocking investment and access to the $5 billion African Energy Bank.

Namibia is set to host the International African Energy, Oil and Gas Summit (IAEOGS 2026) in Windhoek from October 20 to 24, bringing together government officials, investors, energy companies and development institutions as Africa seeks to address persistent energy infrastructure and investment challenges.

The summit, which will be hosted in collaboration with the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), comes at a critical moment for Africa’s energy sector. The continent possesses significant oil, gas, solar, hydro and wind resources, yet hundreds of millions of people continue to lack reliable access to electricity, while energy infrastructure constraints weigh heavily on economic growth.

Benin to host 11th AfriLabs Gathering as Africa advances innovation agenda

According to figures cited by the summit organizers, more than 600 million Africans lack access to electricity and more than 900 million people depend on biomass fuels such as charcoal and wood for cooking. The organizers also estimate that unreliable power systems and fragmented logistics cost Africa approximately $130 billion in economic output each year, while less than 3 percent of global energy investment flows to the continent.

IAEOGS 2026 is designed to address these challenges by connecting capital providers with policymakers and industry leaders involved in Africa’s energy transformation. The summit will focus on investment, regulatory certainty, energy infrastructure, land governance, regional trade and the development of new energy projects.

Namibia’s selection as host highlights the country’s growing importance in Africa’s energy landscape. The country has attracted increasing international attention following major oil and gas discoveries and exploration activity in the Orange Basin, while also developing its potential in renewable energy and green hydrogen.

The summit will place particular emphasis on mobilizing financing for African energy projects. Discussions are expected to examine ways to attract cross-border investment, strengthen regulatory frameworks, utilize carbon markets and access financing opportunities through the newly established African Energy Bank.

Regional energy cooperation will also form a central part of the agenda. Organizers plan to examine how the African Continental Free Trade Area can support stronger energy, oil, gas and LNG supply chains across the continent, including greater connections between established producers such as Nigeria and emerging energy markets such as Namibia.

The event will also feature business-to-business and business-to-government meetings designed to connect government representatives, energy companies, refinery operators, technology providers and institutional investors.

Land governance is another major focus of the summit, reflecting the importance of secure land access and clear regulatory frameworks for large-scale energy and infrastructure projects. Organizers argue that stronger governance can help reduce investment risks while supporting sustainable development.

IAEOGS 2026 will be held under the theme “Igniting Africa’s Energy and Land Governance Future.” NUST will serve as a co-host alongside partners including the Network of Excellence on Land Governance in Africa, the Crude Oil Refinery-Owners Association of Nigeria, African Energy World, African Energy Vault Limited, Transcontinental University USA and African Energy Academy.

For Namibia, the summit offers an opportunity to showcase its emerging position within Africa’s energy industry while attracting international attention and investment. For the wider continent, the gathering comes as governments face the challenge of expanding energy access while building infrastructure capable of supporting rapid population and economic growth.

With Africa’s population projected to reach around 2.5 billion by 2050, the organizers say greater investment in energy infrastructure, regional cooperation and effective governance will be essential to achieving long-term economic development and reducing energy poverty.
