The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism officially concluded Tourism Week 2026 with an institutional dinner held at the iconic National Park Tower in Malabo, bringing together ministry staff, representatives of the public and private sectors, tourism professionals, and key stakeholders directly and indirectly involved in the country’s tourism development.
The dinner marked the closing event of a week-long programme organized to commemorate World Tourism Day 2026, serving as a platform to celebrate the progress of the tourism sector while reinforcing collaboration among all those committed to its future. The evening featured a vibrant cultural performance by Ballet Ceiba, whose traditional dances showcased Equatorial Guinea’s rich cultural heritage and highlighted the importance of culture as one of the country’s greatest tourism assets.
This year’s celebration was held under the theme “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” reflecting the profound transformation currently reshaping the global tourism industry. From destination marketing and visitor engagement to data-driven decision-making and smart tourism services, digital technologies and artificial intelligence are becoming essential tools for building a more competitive, innovative, and sustainable tourism sector.
During his remarks, the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Juan José Ekuna Esono, seated at the head table alongside the Secretary of State, María Milagrosa Nchama Nzo, the Ministry’s advisers, the Director General of Tourism, and the Director General of Libraries, emphasized that Equatorial Guinea has all the necessary assets to establish itself as a leading tourism destination in Central Africa. He stressed that unlocking this potential will require continued investment in innovation, digital transformation, and stronger collaboration between public institutions, the private sector, and tourism professionals.
The Minister also underlined the importance of embracing artificial intelligence and digital technologies to enhance the country’s international visibility, improve tourism services, attract investment, and create new opportunities for economic diversification beyond the hydrocarbons sector.
The strong participation of government officials, tourism operators, entrepreneurs, hospitality professionals, and institutional partners reflected the growing commitment to building a modern, resilient, and sustainable tourism industry capable of competing on the regional and international stage.
