Emilio Nsue, captain of the Equatorial Guinea national team, has announced his intention to retire from professional football in two years. This announcement follows his recent success in receiving the Golden Boot at the latest Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Ivory Coast, a achievement that highlights his impact and leadership in African football.

In statements shared on his social media, Nsue expressed his main goal before retiring: to lead the “Nzalang Nacional” to their first World Cup appearance. “Winning the Golden Boot has been a dream come true, but my greatest aspiration is to take Equatorial Guinea to the World Cup. I am fully committed to every game and training session to achieve this historic goal”, Nsue posted.

His recent recognition at AFCON underscores his crucial role in the success of the national team, showcasing his skill and dedication on the field. This award not only celebrates his individual excellence but also his contribution to the performance of the Equatorial Guinea national team. Under his leadership, the team has shown significant progress, making World Cup qualification a central goal for the country.

In addition to his football career, Emilio Nsue is preparing for the future with his personal project, the Nsue Sport Plus Association. This initiative aims to promote sports among young people and create opportunities for future talents. On his social media, Nsue discussed the initiative: “I want to use my experience to inspire young people and support the development of future footballers. The Nsue Sport Plus Association is my way of giving back to the sport what it has given me”.

The news of his retirement comes at a time when his presence is missed in recent matches due to a FIFA-imposed suspension. Fans are closely watching both the player’s and the team’s next steps, hoping that Nsue and his squad can achieve the historic World Cup qualification.
