China and Jordan should further deepen the alignment of their development strategies and expand mutually beneficial cooperation, Chinese President Xi Jinping said during talks with King Abdullah II of Jordan in Beijing.

Xi said the two countries should strengthen cooperation in traditional areas including economy and trade, infrastructure, transport and mining, while developing new areas of growth such as the digital economy, artificial intelligence and green energy.

The Chinese president also called for broader exchanges in education, culture, science and technology and tourism, saying stronger people-to-people ties would further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

Xi said China and Jordan have maintained a relationship based on mutual respect, equality and mutually beneficial cooperation since establishing diplomatic relations. He noted that the two countries elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership in 2015, when Xi and King Abdullah II jointly announced the move.

Against the backdrop of global and regional uncertainty, Xi said a stronger and more dynamic China-Jordan relationship meets the interests of both peoples and reflects the broader trend of Global South countries seeking greater strength through cooperation.

He called on the two countries to strengthen strategic mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation and increase coordination in multilateral affairs, with the aim of contributing to peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

Xi also emphasized China’s recognition of Jordan’s important regional role and said Beijing supports Jordan in safeguarding its sovereignty, security and development interests. China is prepared to expand exchanges with Jordan at various levels, including between governments, political parties, legislative bodies and local authorities.

The two countries will also strengthen cooperation within the United Nations and other multilateral institutions, with Xi calling for joint efforts to uphold the UN-centered international system and an international order based on international law.

King Abdullah II said Jordan highly values its strategic partnership with China and respects the country’s development achievements. He said the two sides have maintained close coordination and productive cooperation across multiple sectors.

The Jordanian king reaffirmed his country’s commitment to the one-China policy and said Jordan considers Taiwan an inalienable part of China’s territory.

Abdullah said Jordan seeks to deepen cooperation with China in areas including trade, manufacturing, agriculture, technology, pharmaceuticals, culture and education. He also welcomed Chinese companies to invest in Jordan to support shared development and prosperity.

The two leaders also exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East. Xi reiterated China’s call for a comprehensive ceasefire, an end to hostilities and the resolution of disputes through political and diplomatic means.

Xi said the sovereignty and security of Jordan and other countries in the region should be respected. He described the Palestinian question as the core of the Middle East issue and said efforts to address it should uphold political settlement, the principle of Palestinians governing Palestine, humanitarian principles, fairness and justice.

King Abdullah said Jordan appreciates China’s position on Middle East affairs and its support for Arab countries. He said Amman would maintain close communication with Beijing and continue working toward de-escalation, peace and prosperity across the region.

Following the talks, the two sides witnessed the signing of several cooperation documents covering foreign affairs, economy and trade, industrial and supply chains and judicial cooperation. China and Jordan also issued a joint statement on deepening their strategic partnership, further outlining their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors
