A new door to knowledge and empowerment is opening for women across the African continent. The Women for Africa Foundation, in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Relations with Africa of the Government of the Canary Islands, has launched the 2025 edition of its prestigious Learn Africa Canarias program—an online training initiative aimed at strengthening the professional skills of African women through a high-quality, fully funded academic offering.

Launched in 2020 in response to mobility restrictions during the pandemic, the program has already achieved remarkable results: more than 936 women from 44 African countries have benefited, and 1,280 scholarships have been awarded. Now, in its 2025 edition, the program reaffirms its commitment to education as a powerful tool for social transformation.

Training will be delivered by some of the most respected institutions in the Canary Islands, such as the University of La Laguna (ULL), the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), the Canary Foundation for Training and Business Development (FULP), the General Foundation of ULL (FGULL), and the Canary Islands Institute of Technology (ITC). The program offers specialized courses in innovative entrepreneurship, digital skills, office software tools—such as intermediate and advanced Excel—as well as university-level education in various academic areas. Additionally, participants can access Spanish language courses designed to support linguistic integration and expand professional opportunities.

The call is open exclusively to African women residing on the continent who hold or are pursuing university degrees. One of the main requirements is to have internet access and the necessary digital tools to attend online classes.

The application period runs from June 16 to June 30, 2025, and candidates must apply online through the program’s official website. Required documents include a passport, resume, university diploma or academic transcript, recent photo, motivation letter, and other course-specific certificates. Each applicant may apply for one scholarship in each block: one for a specialized course and another for Spanish language training.

Beyond access to high-quality academic content, Learn Africa Canarias fosters the creation of a network of women leaders—agents of change within their communities. Selected participants commit to completing the course and actively engaging in follow-up activities, such as mentoring, surveys, and joining an alumni network that now spans the continent.

The selection results will be published by the end of July 2025, and courses will be held between July and November. Only selected applicants will be contacted directly by the organization.
