Beijing Embassy in Malabo celebrates 74th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China

China's economic growth has been remarkable, with continuous GDP expansion over the last five years. In 2023 alone, China's GDP grew by 5.5% in the first half of the year and 6.5% in the second half, outperforming many other countries.

The Beijing Embassy in Malabo recently celebrated the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The event highlighted China’s contributions to the world and the significance of its relationship with Equatorial Guinea.

In his speech, Chinese Chargé d’Affaires Ji Denghua emphasized China’s economic and technological advancements on the global stage. He noted that China had transformed from a poor and backward country into the world’s second-largest economy. Denghua highlighted China’s achievement of eradicating poverty for over 800 million of its citizens, improving living standards, and enabling a third of the population to achieve middle-income status.

China’s commitment to philanthropy and world peace was also underscored. President Xi Jinping initiated the Global Civilisation Initiative, emphasizing the promotion of world governance transformation and construction. China’s Silk Road initiative has facilitated cooperation, mutual learning, and shared benefits among nations, contributing to global stability.

Cooperation with Equatorial Guinea, an undisputed friendship

The celebration highlighted the strong cooperation between Equatorial Guinea and China over the past 53 years. The collaboration spans various sectors, including education and healthcare. Hundreds of Guinean students have pursued their education in Chinese universities, enhancing Equatorial Guinea’s human resources. Chinese contributions to Equatorial Guinea’s healthcare system, including the construction of health centers and hospitals, have been instrumental in improving public health.

Beyond education and healthcare, the partnership between the two countries has resulted in significant infrastructure projects, including the Djibloho Hydroelectric Centre, the Malabo National Park, the Turbo Gas Power Plant, and the new Malabo Airport Terminal.

The event served as a testament to the strong friendship between Equatorial Guinea and China, with representatives from both nations celebrating the occasion. It reflected the mutual benefits and cooperation that have characterized their longstanding relationship.
